DeFi and Gaming Could Thrive Under Trump, Says Sky Mavis’s Jeffrey Zirlin.

YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — Jeffrey Zirlin, co-founder of Sky Mavis, highlighted potential benefits for DeFi growth and blockchain gaming under Donald Trump’s presidency. Speaking at the YGG Play Summit in Manila on Nov. 21, Zirlin noted how regulatory challenges under the current U.S. administration restricted innovation in token design.

The current regulatory environment, led by SEC Chair Gary Gensler, has created significant hurdles for developers attempting to explore new token utility. However, Jeffrey Zirlin explained that a policy shift under Trump could bring much-needed regulatory clarity to the crypto space.

As a result, developers may have greater opportunities to experiment with token distribution models within blockchain games.

Zirlin added that DeFi growth and gaming can potentially bring long-term value to the crypto industry. With reduced regulatory pressure, these sectors could see expanded opportunities.

Jeffrey Zirlin Highlights Memecoins’ Role in Blockchain Gaming

Zirlin addressed the rise of memecoin trends in the crypto industry, a subject of divided opinions. He acknowledged that memecoins, often criticized for speculative activity, play a role in onboarding users to blockchain games.

The good thing about memecoins is that they attract people who are primarily speculative and thinking short-term,”
Zirlin said

According to him, this audience is well-suited for early-stage adoption in blockchain gaming. The overlap between speculative activity and gaming innovation creates opportunities for projects to gain traction among new users.

While memecoins continue to dominate attention, Zirlin remains focused on the long-term adoption cycle of blockchain gaming. He emphasized that legitimate projects could benefit from the increased interest generated by memecoins.

Regulatory Clarity in Crypto May Favor Legitimate Projects

Zirlin’s observations align with those of Consensys CEO Joseph Lubin, who previously stated that Trump’s presidency could positively impact utility-driven crypto projects. On Nov. 14, Lubin emphasized that Ethereum and its ecosystem are well-positioned to thrive under Trump’s anticipated crypto-friendly administration.

Lubin pointed out that Ethereum’s maturity, compared to other protocols, makes it a strong candidate for growth in a clearer regulatory landscape.

Zirlin also emphasized that reduced restrictions would create new opportunities for DeFi growth and blockchain gaming, sectors he considers central to the crypto industry’s future.
