Hyperliquid (HYPE) Slips Out Of Top 10 After 6.5% Crash: Why?

The native token of the Hyperliquid exchange, HYPE, is enjoying one of its strongest years on record. Having broken multiple all-time highs throughout 2026, the digital asset even secured a spot among the top ten cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. Yet, CoinGecko metrics show that HYPE has experienced a sharp 6.5% downturn over the past week, pushing the token out of the top ten rankings. Here is a look at the factors behind Hyperliquid’s recent decline and whether a recovery may be on the horizon.

Why Is Hyperliquid Down Today?

Despite this recent pullback, HYPE continues to hold impressive gains across its 14-day, monthly, and yearly timeframes. Having reached an all-time high of $97.96 just six days prior on September 23, 2026, the current downward movement is likely the result of investors cashing in their profits following the record-breaking peak.

Another contributing factor to Hyperliquid’s decline is a broader market downturn. Bitcoin (BTC) has slipped back to the $83,000 threshold following its recent climb toward $87,000. Sentiment across the cryptocurrency sector has turned more cautious after the Federal Reserve opted to increase interest rates by 25 basis points following the September FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) meeting.

While the broader digital asset market has found it difficult to build momentum for much of the year, HYPE largely bucked that trend. This divergence was driven by a dramatic influx of users onto the Hyperliquid exchange. Traders rushed to the platform to trade oil futures in the wake of the US-Iran conflict, generating a surge in fee collections. Hyperliquid utilizes these fees to repurchase HYPE coins, and the resulting increase in buybacks fueled a major price rally.

HYPE experienced another substantial price jump when President Trump announced during a White House cryptocurrency event that the exchange could soon launch in the United States. A successful US debut could potentially propel HYPE past the $100 milestone.
